I'd been a foolish Haligonian. 13 years in Halifax and I hadn't explored Duncan's Cove. 13 years in Halifax and I didn't even know it was there. My first visit was to the trails that skirt the cliffs by Parliament Rock and the Chebucto Head Lighthouse. The view from the top is incredible - Halifax to your left, the wide open Atlantic to your right.
Sins forgiven? Not quite. I still didn't know about the Duncan Reef side of the Cove but I finally made that visit in 2016 with these two. A beautiful September day with full sun and no wind. Rare for Nova Scotia. A fresh canvas and carefree couple made for a wonderful session as we explored windswept scrubland and chattering rocks along the beaches. Rolling hills may have blocked our sunset, but we certainly enjoyed the moonrise and pastel tones that followed.
I've been forcing myself to be a bit more candid with engagement sessions - to capture the in between moments and create something a bit more organic. Movement. Flow. Laughter. Go wide, then get in close. Focus on footsteps or held hands. So far so good.
