This post has been a long time coming - sorry everyone! My great yearly plan of staying on top of these fell apart just after the start of the 2016 season and I've been meaning to catch up ever since.
St. Marks Place has easily become one of my favourite wedding venues outside of Halifax. Walk inside and you're greeted with high ceilings, stained glass windows and woodwork that has darkened with age. Step outside and you're greeted with a sweeping view of the LaHave River, dotted by white sails and the occasional dory. Its easy to see why the Lutherans of yesteryear chose this spot to gather and worship - there is a great beauty in the contract of the river's movement and the steadfastness of the land the structure sits on. Building here would also save them from the weekly walk to worship in Lunenburg - a 22km round trip that was often made barefoot.
The last congregation disbanded in 2005 and the church was purchased in 2009. I can't fathom being faced with the daunting task of renovating a church of this vintage and size. The construction diaries on the St. Marks website are a testament to the perseverance of those involved - the Lutherans would be proud.
Marlee and Ian chose St. Marks for both their wedding ceremony and reception. Blue skies, apple blossoms and a slight breeze off the water - the perfect day in late May for friends and family to come together and celebrate. It was a great way to start the 2016 wedding season, and a wedding I won't forget. Thank you for having me. It was a pleasure.
