Friday, May 6th marks the first day of my 2016 wedding season. It'll be a whirlwind, but I'm pumped. The winter months that precede the busy season are a chance to decompress and a chance to focus on other photographic endeavours. I've quickly learned that wedding photography can be a gateway to so much more as I've had a number of past clients touch base in the hopes of having their growing families documented. It's an honour to be a part of their next chapter and I'm excited to share some photos from this recent session.
Posed images are fun to plan and capture, but newborns and toddlers often march to the beat of their own drum. One could attempt to compose, but I have more fun marching alongside them as the documentarian. Being young is living unscripted. Let the toddler do their thing and hold the newborn close.
Although weddings will dominate the summer months, I've committed myself to documenting moments at home as part of 'The Beautiful Mundane', a "Nova Scotia based photography collective finding beauty in the everyday moments of family life." The collective grew out of the desire to document stories within our daily routines, to capture the in-between moments and to find beauty in the 'mundane.' I'm surrounded by an incredible talent within the group and I look forward to what lies ahead.
Inspiration garnered from the summer months will undoubtedly shape my approach to family photography once the 2016 wedding season has come to a close.
