The rain. My god.
Even though the year was young I'd decided that 2015 was going to be a wacky in regards to weather. After a never ending winter, Halifax transitioned into an overcast and rainy spring.
The 6th of June started with grey skies and a steady downpour. It didn't let up and the hourly forecast was erratic at best. Plans for an outdoor wedding were quickly abandoned and arrangements were made to hold the ceremony indoors at the Hubbards Barn. As a wedding photographer you have to roll with the punches, no matter how hard they may be. That said it's still difficult to ignore the growing knot in your stomach and to not flip the clouds a bird and question why an additional 30 millimeters of rain is needed when the monthly rainfall amount has been surpassed in less than a week.
The sound of rain on the metal roof of the barn didn't dampen any spirits within - It may have been cramped, but at least it was cozy. Tears, smiles and laughter were shared by those who came together for the ceremony and the clouds slowly parted by the time everything was sealed with a kiss.
Kudos to Chelsea Verdun and her team at D2D Events. They moved mountains and kept everything on track. Richard & Ashley from Applehead Studio crafted a fantastic video of the day. Another huge shout out to Chelsea Lee Flowers - the detail in the arrangements was absolutely incredible. Krista at Polka Dot Cakes baked her heart and soul into Lauren & Iain's wedding cake. I haven't seen anything like it. And the team from Alicia Melanson Hair & Makeup! I've had the pleasure of working with them before, and I look forward to working with them again. Pleasant to be around and incredibly talented - the perfect mix for the start of a wedding day. And last, but certainly not least. Merimac. You guys ripped up that barn with your sets. Bravo.
Shine on you crazy diamonds. Thank you for having me.
