An old wood framed church bordered by white picket fence in Glencoe Mills. The perfect little bend along the Southwest Mabou River, surrounded by rock cliffs and evergreens in Glencoe Station. Beautiful spots for a wedding and reception respectively. I love playing the role of tour guide with clients, but I enjoy it even more when the roles are reversed. I’d passed through the area before, but had never explored these gems until now. It had been bone dry and hot all day - dust from the Upper Southwest Mabou Road had worked its way into the car despite having the windows closed and a brand new engine filter had to be replaced the following week. It's been eight months and I'm still finding dirt tucked behind door and trunk seals . . .
This was a true Cape Breton wedding. Endless supplies of laughter, hugs, alcohol, gossip, well wishes and lawn games. A late afternoon thunderstorm worked its way along the shore between Port Hood and Inverness, the outer bands offering up showers that helped cut the heat as the sun set. Helped wash away the dust. Helped to rejuvenate guests and helped to fill the dance floor. The party didn't let up. And why would it? This is Cape Breton.
Thank you, friends - it was a day of fantastic company and cheer.
