Warm sun and a steady breeze. The perfect mix for an afternoon of sailing along Halifax's Northwest Arm. It was also perfect for an intimate outdoor wedding underneath the trees at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron - North America's first yacht club. Although the club didn't originate in its current home the post and beam structure is steeped in character and tucked away in a quiet part of the city. Nautical charts and instruments line the walls, as do various cups and awards that have been earned over the years. To the left of the club is the Dingle Tower, overlooking the northern part of the arm. To the right lies the harbour entrance and the rolling swells of the Atlantic. This would be my first visit to the club as a wedding photographer and I am thankful to Rob and Jody for the opportunity to document their day. Its not everyday that I'm able to sail the Northwest Arm, but I hope to be back again soon.

Moving forward my hope is that I'm able to document more days like this one. Earlier in the season I had photographed Mike & Leslie's wedding at the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market. A couple of months later I found myself at the home of Mike's parents. John and Margo would be celebrating their anniversary and renewing their vows. Click on the post title to read more . . .

I’ve fallen in love with Halifax, but I also love leaving the city behind and exploring the countryside. Exploration is a keystone of the wedding photography business, and something that all wedding photographers should take advantage of. I was born and raised in Ontario, but moved to Nova Scotia in 2001 to attend Dalhousie University. The difference in land area between the two is staggering, but I wasn’t prepared for how diverse the smaller province of Nova Scotia is. Despite the small size there are still a number of pockets I haven’t visited - I was therefore honoured to be invited to Rebecca & Konstantin's wedding as it would provide an opportunity to explore an area of the Gaspereau Valley that I hadn't yet travelled through.
