Halifax Backyard Wedding
Moving forward my hope is that I'm able to document more days like this one. Earlier in the season I had photographed Mike & Leslie's wedding at the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market. A couple of months later I found myself at the home of Mike's parents. John and Margo would be celebrating their anniversary and renewing their vows - close family and friends had been invited and the backyard would serve as the focal point for the afternoon. Prior to the ceremony there had been a few sun showers but the decision was made to forge ahead and stick to the original plan. Shortly after John and Margo were piped into their backyard the sky let loose and a mad scramble for shelter commenced. Decorations may have succumbed to the rain, but it certainly didn't stop the flow of wine or silence the laughter of those who had gathered. Moving indoors the ceremony soon picked up where it had left off outdoors with guests quickly filling the living room and spilling into the adjacent dining room and hallway. As a photographer it was amazing to be surrounded by so much love and cheer and to witness the recognition and renewal of a union that has spanned many years. From handshakes to hugs, smiles to laughter, wine to cake. I'll take more, please.
